Ahead of the launch, we sat down with domain investor Rahim to talk about prediction markets, the underrated power of .xyz domains, and why he believes sitting on a great domain without unlocking its value is a missed opportunity.

Q: Can you tell us a bit about your background in domaining? When did you first start buying domains, and what pulled you into the space?

Rahim: I first started buying domains in college for side projects I was working on at the time. From there I just kept collecting, I've never actually sold any of them.

Doma is interesting to me because I can get some liquidity while still retaining upside in the domain, versus just selling it outright. That's a fundamentally different value proposition than anything I've seen before in the space.

Q: What was your first "aha moment" where you realized domains are real digital assets?

Rahim: Honestly, it was when I came across the Doma website. I had bought and sold NFTs before, but that always felt speculative. Domains felt different: more grounded, more real. Doma was the moment it clicked that a domain isn't just a URL, it's an asset with genuine financial properties.

Q: What made you acquire census.xyz specifically?

Rahim: I started looking at a lot of prediction marketplaces around the time of the last U.S. presidential election and thought "census" would be a perfect name for a prediction marketplace business in the future. It's intuitive — a census is about aggregating collective opinion, measuring what people think. That maps directly onto what prediction markets do.

The name practically explains the product before you've even opened the site.

Q: What do you see as the long-term value thesis behind this name? And how do you view .xyz in today's market?

Rahim: I believe .xyz is the second best TLD behind .com. It's clean, modern, and increasingly adopted by serious internet-native companies. Combined with "census" — one of the best single-word brands available for the prediction market space — you have something genuinely valuable.

There are a lot of great businesses that could be built around this domain. The thesis is simple: whoever builds the defining prediction market platform will want a name that signals authority and mass participation. Census does that.

Q: What excites you most about domains moving onchain?

Rahim: Better price discovery and liquidity. Those are the two things the traditional domain market has always lacked. Right now, domains either sit parked or sell through slow, opaque brokerage processes. Putting them onchain changes that completely — you get real-time market signals, global participation, and the ability to unlock capital from an asset that would otherwise just be sitting idle.

Q: Where do you see the domain space heading this year?

Rahim: I think we'll see more financial products emerge around different TLDs — indexes, baskets, yield-generating structures. The infrastructure is being built right now. Doma is part of that shift. The space is moving from "buy and wait" to "buy and activate."

Q: Any advice for domain investors who are curious about Web3 but haven't taken the leap?

Rahim: Just try it. I participated in the software.ai sale first to get a feel for how it worked, and that removed any hesitation I had. The technology is more accessible than people assume. You don't need to go deep on crypto to participate — you just need to be willing to try.

The upside of expanding your liquidity options is real. There's no good reason to let valuable domains sit parked when you can activate them.
