Smoothie.com Is Going Onchain: Meet the OG Domainers Bringing It to Market
Q&A with the Castello Brothers, the OG domainers behind one of the internet's most iconic category-defining global brands talks Smoothie.com, thirty years in the industry, and why the best assets are finally going liquid onchain.
Q: Let's start with the obvious question. Smoothie.com, why now?
David: Timing. Perfect timing. The future of Smoothie.com and Doma intersected early this year. Every name in our portfolio has a destiny. Part of our journey has been me and my brother Michael discovering it.
The timing is right because the infrastructure is finally here. Doma has built the rails and we're using them.
Q: For people who don't know the Castello Brothers, tell us a bit about yourselves and you background in domaining?
David: Michael began acquiring names in 1994. In the summer of 1997, I was visiting our parents in Boynton Beach, Florida. Our late mother, who later became our CFO, told me what Michael was doing and asked me to check it out. I knew nothing about domain names, but I have a background in promotion and quickly realized these names were huge brands. So, I began selling advertising for BoyntonBeach.com to test the water. Revenue started rolling in and Michael told me that PalmSprings.com had the most traffic. I hopped in my T-bird and drove across the country. In the first year, I generated $458,000 in revenue. Michael gave me half the company and here we are.
Besides Smoothie.com, our portfolio includes Nashville.com, Cost.com, PalmSprings.com, Sample.com, WestPalmBeach.com, Wednesday.com, Kennel.com, GolfClub.com, Caution.com, Manicure.com and many more.
In our first decade, PalmSprings.com generated over $15 million in profit. We sold Whisky.com for $3.1 million in 2014. We owned Rate.com and watched a competitor spend millions on TV advertising for Rate.net — only to see all of their viewers come straight to us because the public always defaults to .com when recalling a brand (our traffic spiked 30,000% overnight). We later sold Rate.com to GuaranteedRate.com.

In 2009, Michael and I were both inducted into the TRAFFIC Domain Name Hall of Fame. We’ve been a member of ICANN's Business Constituency since 2008. We've spent three decades writing about why premium domains are among the most valuable assets in the world and everything we've seen in that time has only reinforced that view. We are not speculators. We are the people who helped define what a premium domain actually is. And we've never been more excited about where this industry is going next.
Q: What makes Smoothie.com different from other domain launches?
David: Most domains that come to market are valued according to what someone might think they’re worth. Smoothie.com is different, it's valuable because of what already exists around it.
The global smoothie market generated approximately $15 billion in revenue in 2025. It's projected to exceed $23 billion by 2030. That's not a speculative category. That's one of the fastest-growing segments in food, beverage and wellness globally. Health, functional nutrition, D2C brands — this category is on an extraordinary trajectory and it's not slowing down.
Smoothie.com is the category-defining global brand for that industry. There is no version 2.0 of this domain. There is no alternative. It’s known as the Smoothie industry. It’s known as the Smoothie market. When a leading smoothie company— and there are many that would pay top dollar for this — finally acquires it, this is the URL they are going to want. People instantly assume the owner runs a major smoothie business. You instantly go from 0 to 100 in the public’s eye. That kind of instant authority is worth an enormous amount, and right now that upside belongs to the people who get in early.
Q: You and Michael have always been strong advocates for .com specifically. Why does that matter so much?
David: Because .com is not just another extension. It is so deeply embedded in the global public consciousness that people default to it, automatically. It doesn't matter what extension a competitor uses. When the public sees or hears a brand, they recall .com. Every time.
Using any extension beside .com forces the public to remember both sides of the dot. That's marketing suicide.
Smoothie.com is the single most searched word in its category on the world's most trusted extension. That combination is rarely available.
Q: What does launching on Doma mean for Smoothie.com specifically?
David: We’ve been watching Doma since last year. We’ve watched them grow and expand. We believe their concept is the future. I believe Smoothie.com will take Doma to the next level. I talked to Michael and we agreed to go for it.
Doma’s tokenization model means the domain goes liquid — it becomes tradeable, accessible and the community captures the upside that would previously flow to a single acquirer. That's a fundamentally different and frankly more exciting way to bring a premium global asset to market.
When I looked at what Doma has built — the infrastructure, the community, the fractionalization launch program — it was clear this was the right platform for a huge asset like Smoothie.com.
When is smoothie.com launching?
Smoothie.com goes live on Doma on July 1, 2026.
The countdown is already running. The community is already guessing. The blender is warming up.
Grand Opening: Smoothie.com
The Category Just Got Liquid 🥤
Q: Looking back at thirty years — what's the asset you're most proud of?
David: The portfolio as a whole. Anyone can get lucky with one domain. Building a network of category-defining .coms over three decades, developing them into real businesses, watching cities and industries grow up around names we acquired — that's our legacy. Smoothie.com is the latest chapter in that story, and I believe it will be the most exciting one yet.
Q: Any final thoughts for someone sitting on the fence about this?
David: Michael has been doing this since 1994. I’ve been doing it since 1997. We've seen every cycle this industry has been through. The pattern with category-defining domains is always the same — early looks obvious in hindsight, and the window to be early is always shorter than people think.
