How We're Partnering with Privy to Power Seamless, Secure User Onboarding on Mainnet
Inder Singh (VP Product & Tech, D3)
Now that Doma has launched its mainnet, we’re sharing a series of conversations with the infrastructure partners helping us get there. These are the teams building the critical components behind tokenizing and trading hundreds of millions of DNS-compliant domains.
First up is our discussion with Asta Li, the CTO of Privy. Privy’s secure onboarding stack powers Doma’s launchpad for domains, and helps us bring domain trading to the next wave of users.
Inder: It’s a pleasure to have you here with us Asta! I will get straight to it. When we set out to bring domains on-chain, one of the first challenges we faced was onboarding.
As you know, domains are a consumer-scale asset, but crypto onboarding has traditionally been clunky and intimidating. How does Privy fill this need?
Asta: Thanks for having me Inder. So, we started Privy because the existing Web3 experience was built for power users and early adopters. It wasn’t built for the next hundred million people. Creating wallets, backing up seed phrases, switching networks, it’s too much friction.
Now, Doma is opening a new category: domains as liquid, financial assets. To make that work, you need an onboarding flow that feels as simple as signing up for a modern app but still gives users ownership of their keys. That’s exactly what Privy is designed for.
Inder: From a technical standpoint, how will Doma and Privy work with each other?
Asta: So, Doma uses Privy for user identity and wallet creation. Our APIs let a new trader show up with just an email, social login, or existing wallet and be ready to mint or trade in seconds.
Behind the scenes, we generate and secure keys in the user’s browser or device. Keys never leave their control. You get an experience as easy as Web2 sign-up, but the user is still crypto-native from day one.
Inder: Of course, security is non-negotiable. This is especially true when the underlying assets are real DNS domains. How does Privy help us meet that bar?
Asta: So, there are a few things at play here. First, we have end-to-end encryption. Private keys are encrypted client-side before they’re ever stored. Then there are recovery options, so people can add ways to get back into their account without handing over control of their keys.
And finally, we built privacy controls so apps can use things like emails or names for features such as notifications or KYC checks, but without ever touching the raw data themselves.
Inder: For us, integrating Privy was also about credibility. We wanted our mainnet stack to show we’re building for scale and safety. From your perspective, why does partnering with Privy signal that?
Asta: Serious projects invest in user experience and security from day one. Of course you could have built your own wallet and identity layer, but that would have meant reinventing a very hard wheel, and taking on a lot of risk. Using a battle-tested onboarding layer says: “We’re here to scale safely.” Paradigm and Sequoia backed us because they believe consumer-grade crypto infra matters. That’s the same bet Doma is making.
Today, projects like OpenSea, PumpFun, Hyperliquid, and Jupiter already use Privy for seamless, gas-free, one-click transactions, the same tech stack now powering Doma’s onboarding layer.
Inder: What excites you most about this partnership?
Asta: Honestly, the scale. Domains are one of the biggest untapped asset classes on the internet. If Doma succeeds, millions of people who’ve never touched DeFi could end up owning and trading real web assets.Seeing Privy make that first step simple for them is exactly why we built this company.
Looking ahead, we’re both thinking about how to make things even smoother. Like letting users buy domains without worrying about gas or bridging between chains. That’s where what you’re building at Doma and what we’re doing with embedded wallets really start to come together.
Inder: That’s very well put Asta. In closing I just want to say one thing to my fellow builders. Don’t underestimate onboarding. It’s the first handshake your user has with your product. Privy helped us make that handshake secure, simple, and accessible to everyone.
