Bringing Domains Natively Onchain to Base
Domains are among the oldest and most valuable digital assets on the internet. They are scarce, globally transferable, and deeply tied to identity and commerce. Yet for decades, domain trading has remained slow, fragmented, and largely disconnected from the onchain economy.
At Doma, our mission is to make domains as liquid and easily tradeable as any other digital asset. By launching the Doma Names Marketplace as a Base mini app, we are bringing domains directly into one of the largest and fastest-growing Web3 ecosystems.
Base is home to millions of users, developers, and onchain interactions, making it the ideal environment to unlock real-time discovery, trading, and settlement for domains. By building natively on Base, domains can now move at internet speed — benefiting from low fees, high throughput, and seamless composability with the broader onchain economy.
This launch represents a major step toward transforming domains from static, illiquid assets into liquid, onchain primitives, fully integrated with the ecosystems where modern digital identity, culture, and commerce are being built.

How Registrars Benefit From The Mini App?
From an engineering standpoint, the most important constraint was preserving DNS guarantees. Doma’s registrar integrations are designed so that:
- Domains remain registered through traditional DNS infrastructure
- ICANN compliance and resolution are unchanged
- Registrars retain operational control
- Tokenization becomes an additional distribution layer
InterNetX, the registrar of the IONOS Group, serves as Doma’s anchor registrar partner for the Base App launch.
As one of the largest domain registrars globally, InterNetX manages 22M+ active domains and 24M+ premium listings across millions of customers. Their integration plays a foundational role in bringing large-scale, real-world domain inventory onchain for the first time.
Through Doma’s infrastructure, InterNetX is able to expose premium domain inventory directly to users on Base, one of the largest and fastest-growing Web3 ecosystems, without requiring any re-architecture of existing registrar systems or disruption to DNS operations.

Domains are minted on demand, traded onchain, and synchronized back to registrar systems automatically. Discovery and settlement happens onchain while Doma orchestrates registrar updates through purpose-built APIs.
Why Build the Doma Marketplace as a Mini App?
For Doma, the Base Mini App ecosystem provides an interesting environment. Domains are inherently identity-driven, social assets. Mini Apps allow domain discovery, ownership, and trading to live directly inside the onchain environment where users already transact and communicate, without asking them to leave or context-switch.
Once acquired, domains can be viewed and managed through the Base App interface. Ownership is cryptographically verifiable onchain, while DNS resolution continues to function exactly as it does today.
What Are Base Mini Apps?
Base Mini Apps are lightweight, web-based applications that run inside Farcaster, Base’s social app, and other similar platforms. Instead of standalone apps that require downloads, new accounts, or separate wallets, Mini Apps can be run directly by Base users. Applications no longer rely on app stores or external acquisition funnels. They propagate through social graphs, where posting or sharing an app makes it instantly discoverable across the Base ecosystem.
Mini Apps also come with core onchain capabilities out of the box:
- Built-in wallet access and payments
- Decentralized identity and human-readable names
- Native social discovery and sharing
- Open deployment without platform gatekeeping
What Comes Next
Onchain infrastructure only matters when it meets users where they already are. Base Mini Apps collapse discovery, transaction, and sharing into a single, seamless flow and domains are a natural fit for that model.
With DNS domains now natively accessible inside one of the largest and fastest-growing Web3 ecosystems, the Doma Names Marketplace on Base unlocks an entirely new frontier for DomainFi.
What’s coming next:
- DeFi primitives built on DNS-backed assets, including lending, collateralization, and structured products
- Cross-chain liquidity for domain tokens, enabling global price discovery across ecosystems
- Deeper integrations with identity, naming, and social systems across Web3
- New ownership and monetization models that turn domains into programmable, revenue-generating internet infrastructure
Domains were the original digital assets.
On Base, they’re becoming onchain primitives.
The rest gets built on top.
